Sheffield MP questions Prime Minister on fracking and renewables

During Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday 12 September, Paul Blomfield MP urged Theresa May to invest in renewable energy rather than backing deeply unpopular carbon-emitting fracking.

Government warned it could lose vote over changes to shale gas planning rules

The government was warned [on 12th September] to drop proposals to change the planning rules on shale gas.

MPs from all parties lined up in a parliamentary debate to criticise the ideas, announced in May and currently being consulted on.

They would classify fracking shale gas developments as permitted development without the need for planning applications. Decisions on major production schemes would be made by ministers rather than local authorities.

The Big Conversation on Climate Change with Paul Blomfield MP

Sheffield Climate Alliance are hosting this event for a second time running, giving the citizens of Sheffield a chance to raise their concerns on climate change with Paul Blomfield MP and hear his views.

Whether your concern is on fracking or forestry, transport or food, climate jobs or education, bring your succinct question or point along and hear what Paul has to say. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a stall highlighting the work SCA carry out.

The Toxicity of Fracking Waste – public meeting with Dr Ian Fairlie

Frack Free Ecclesfield and Chapeltown are hosting a public meeting on fracking and water quality. This subject is very pertinent to the residents near the waste water treatment centre off Station Road, Ecclesfield, where fracked water is likely to be treated, but also to everyone concerned about the health risks fracking presents.

Dr Ian Fairlie an independent expert on radiation and the dangers of waste water from fracking will give a presentation followed by questions.In particular, he is concerned about the toxicity of waste water from fracking, some of which, according to the Environment Agency, is likely to contain heavy metals and therefore be radioactive.

Global Frackdown Carnival

Saturday 13 October
Starts at 2pm
Barkers Pool, Sheffield

You are invited to be a part of this powerful occasion, with 3 parts:
PART 1 (2-4pm): The Frackdown Carnival kicks off with a mass rally at Barkers Pool. At 3pm key speakers will share their vision of the future without fracking and their own experiences of the anti-fracking fight, human rights, renewables, social movement and hope! There will also be a samba bras band, anti-fracking songs, street theatre and a mass bubble blow against fracking flow (bring your own bubbles!)
PART 2 (4-6.30pm): An afternoon of free workshops, Q&A, talks and family-friendly fun at DINA, just 100m down the road. Food provided by DINA between 5.30-6.30pm (advance tickets only)
PART 3 (7.30pm-late): Fundraiser party at DINA – A celebration of a growing resistance – with funds raised going towards local appeals and resistance camps. With live music from Winston Macabre, Solar Love Society, 20ft Squid Blues Band, Otis Mensah and Poppers Revival. (advance tickets only)
