Community groups across Yorkshire came together on Saturday 30th July for what has been described as the ‘biggest ever anti-fracking rally in Yorkshire’.
The demonstration was held in York, in protest against the recent decision to allow fracking in Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire. Protestors gathered to make it clear to the oil and gas industry that they have no social licence to carry out high volume hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in Yorkshire or anywhere.
Our Phil, Julie and June marched with the Sheffield Against Fracking banner, joining the hundreds of protesters. Phil was also interviewed for ITV Calendar News (look out for him in the video at about at 1:09).
It was a great turnout. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of people walking down the narrow streets of York chanting and blowing whistles. Tourists and locals stopped to take note and take photos.
